Statement of Commitment to Child Safety
At Epping Heights OSHC, we are fully committed to the safety, wellbeing, and empowerment of all children. We believe that every child has the right to feel and be safe, and we actively work to create an environment where children are respected, listened to, and supported in all aspects of their development.
Our commitment to child safety is underpinned by the Child Safe Standards and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. These principles are embedded in our policies, procedures, and everyday practices, and guide all aspects of our work with children and families.
We take a proactive and transparent approach to child safety through:
- Staff Training: All educators receive ongoing training in child protection, reporting obligations, and the Child Safe Standards.
- Staff Discussions: Child safety is a shared responsibility and is regularly discussed as part of our team culture.
- Staff Meetings: Child protection and the 10 Child Safe Standards are standing agenda items at every staff meeting, ensuring continued reflection, accountability, and service improvement.
- Child Engagement: Each term, we hold a Safety Week where educators speak directly with children about their rights, personal safety, trusted adults, and how they can speak up. These conversations are age-appropriate, empowering, and child-led where possible.
- Family Communication: We regularly share information about our child safety practices and responsibilities through emails, newsletters, and social media, keeping our community informed and engaged in our approach.
We are committed to fostering a culture where children’s voices are heard and where safety is a collective priority. We work in partnership with families and the broader school community to support the rights and wellbeing of every child in our care.
